England win 1st T20 agianst Pakistan

Eoin Morgan and Michael Yardy took England to a comfortable 5 wicket win in the first of two T20's against Pakistan. This was Pakistans first game since the Lords test that was hit with a match fixing controversy.

England won the toss and elected to field first, and paceman Tim Bresnan soon accounted for Kamran Akman. Mohammad Yousuf(26) then looked to take the game away from England, but was soon dismissed by Greame Swann.

Pakistan has a strong platform of 2/50 from 6.5 overs but did no manage to take off, losing wickets at regular intervals. Umar Akmal(35*) and Shahid Afridi(16*) added some quick runs in the final overs and took the score to 4/126.

Englands reply started badly with Shoaib Akhtar picking up two early wickets. However opener Steve Davies and Eoin Morgan dug in and propelled England towards the target. Davies was soon dismissed for 33, but when Collingwood was dismissed for a duck, England were in deep trouble at 5/62.

Yardy then joined Morgan at the crease, and the pair got England over the line with 17 balls to spare.

Yousuf picked for limited-over games

Mohammad Yousuf seems to be back in favour with the selectors after he was selected in Pakistans limited-over squads to play England next month. Yousuf was banned for life after a dissapointing tour of Australia earlier this year where Pakistan lost every single match.

Meanwhile Shoaib Malik - who was also given a one year ban only to be called back - was axed, adding more thrill to the drama. Many people were hoping that Younis Khan would return, but he was not picked.

Pakistan have one last test before the limited overs competition begins. They currently trail the four test series 2-1. A win will give them a lot of confidence ahead of a long season of cricket.

...and Pakistan finally win a test against Australia!

Pakistan have ended a 15 year draught and finally won a test against Australia. It what was a thrilling finale at Leeds, Pakistan prevailed as they pipped past the winning total of 180 with three wickets to spare.

The bowlers were the stars for Pakistan. Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif ensured Australia were put on the back foot right from the start by dismissing them for 88 in the first innings.

As always Australia fought hard, restricting Pakistan to just 258 in the first innings and then crawling their way back in with a 179 run lead.

But in the end the first innings disaster proved too costly and Pakistan romped home to a long overdue win.

Sri Lanka win first test

Sri Lanka gave Murali a perfect farewell thrashing India by 10 wickets in the first of two test at Galle. Murali also picked up his 800th test wicket, the last one of Indias innings to cap off a memorable carreer.

However the Indian tail put up a brave fight on the final afternoon and gave Sri Lanka some anxious moments, especially Murali who was stranded on 799 wickets for 23 overs!

In the end it was Sri Lankas match and they deservingly won.

Salman Butt named Pakistan Captain

Opening batsmen Salman Butt has been named captain of the Pakistani side after the shock retirement of Shahid Afridi.

Afridi made the decision to quit soon after his sides 150 run loss to Australia. Butt was the vice captain on the ongoing tour of England and his appointment as captain was confirmed on Saturday.

His first assignment will be agianst Australia on Wednesday, where he will be hoping to lead his side to a win, and draw the two match test series 1-1.

SL on top after day one

Indias bolwing problems seem to be getting worse after SL dominated the first day of the opening test against India. Kumar Sangakkara and Tharanga Paranavitan were the stars of the day scoring centuries and grinding the Indian bolwers as SL posted 2/256.

But it was the weather that was really things. The match was delayed by almost an hour due to an wet outfield, and then had to be cut short due to bad light. In all 22 overs were lost.

The Indian bolwers were no where near their best. They were simply leaking runs. However debutant Mithun was the only bright star, he trouble Dilshan early and then got his wicket. He was also consistent throughout the day.

The fielding was bad to say the least. There were many catches which were missed and the ground fielding was also poor.

Recent history suggests that Sri Lanka is a place for batting and the batsmen will want to get as many runs as possible to give their bolwers a good chance to get at the Indian bowlers.

Indians make bad start to SL tour

India have made a very bad start to their tour of SL with the Borad Presidents XI domination with both bat and ball.

The Indian bolwers were treated like net bolwers as their of BP XI's batsmen scored centuries.
Only Ojha looked good with the ball and even he had trouble containing the run flow. BP XI declared at 9/514.

The Indian batsmen were then in for a shock as the BP XI bolwers, led by Mendis ripped through the star studded indian line up. Yuvraj was the top scorer with 118, While Gambhir made 89.
India were all out for 291, just short of avoiding the follow-on.

In the second innings, BP XI were aggressive and again made a mockery of the Indian bowlers. They were 4/195 a short while ago, and again its the spinners who have came up with the breakthroughs.

Brett Lee wants to play in the 2011 World Cup

Brett Lee is hoping to play in next years World Cup despite a series of injuries that have left him out of international cricket for nearly a year.

Lee said playing in the World Cup in india would be a great way to finish his career. He has already retired from test cricket to is focus on prolonging his limited overs career.

He has had a very busy year with surgerys and rehab, but he is desperate to make a strong comeback as soon as he is fully fit.

His comeback is certain to give australia an edge, but it will be difficult to make the cut due to strong performances by younger player who got the opportunity in his absense.

Sreesanth out of SL test series

India have suffered a major blow with paceman Sreesanth ruled out of the test series against Sri Lanka. Experienced fast bowler Zaheer Khan was already ruled out due to a shoulder injury and this latest setback is bound to test Indias bowling bench strength.

Sreesanth suffered a ligament tear in his left knee. He was in doubt since yesterday after he missed a training session, but the extent of his injury was confirmed this morning.

Abhimanyu Mithun is now almost certain to debut with Ishant Sharma. This will be one of the most inexperienced bowling line-up that India has had for some time. Add to this the poor form that some of the bowlers have been in.

It will take a mighty team effort to down Sri Lanka. This is shaping up to be a good tournament and SL would certainly like to give Murali a winning farewell.

Afridi confident and raring to go

Having beaten Australia 2-0 in the recently concluded T20 series, Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi is confident of winning the upcoming test series.

Afridi believes his side have found the winning formula, and have put behind the tour of Australia earlier this year where they lost every single match. "I think now that we have regained our winning habit we must work harder to maintain it and make winning a habit," he said.

He is also confident that the youngsters will perform in the absense of Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, are retired and suspended respectively. "Obviously we will miss their experience. I wanted them in the team for this tour and I tried my best to see they were in the team but for different reasons this couldn't happen and it is unfortunate," Afridi said.

Zaheer Khan ruled out of Sri Lanka series

Indian paceman Zaheer Khan has been ruled out of the test series against India due to a shoulder injury. Zaheer last played in the Asia Cup last month, but it is not known when or how is suffered the injury.

Zaheer Khan is the most senior fast bowler in the side and his presence will surely be missed. 20 year old Abhimanyu Mithun has been named as his replacement.

The Indian bowlers havent been upto the mark off late. In Zaheers absense, a lot of responsibility will lie on the shoulders of Ishant Sharma and Sreesanth.

The first test starts on the 18th of June in Galle.
